| Article | ALEXANDRIA, VA.—Coverings returns to Orlando, Fla., in 2010, scheduled for April 27 to 30, but then will head west for the 2011 edition with the Los Angeles Convention Center as the venue. “Orlando is practically home base for Coverings,” said Jennifer Hoff, president of events for National Trade Productions (NTP), which manages and produces the show. “It will be our 11th year there, and it has a proven track record for us. We know it can accommodate the size and scope of the show, is accessible for both domestic and international travelers, and is in a core region for tile and stone business.” But Hoff noted that for several years Coverings has had its eye on the West Coast since it is also a critical tile and stone market. “Though there’s been an aggressive outreach to build attendance from this area, it’s time to be even more targeted. So, we’re going to take the show to the proverbial mountain.” The inaugural Coverings expo was held 21 years ago in Los Angeles and returned to the West Coast two additional times early on. Chicago, which played host to the show in 2007 and 2009, yielded its share of advantages, including a spike in attendance among architects and designers. According to Hoff, Coverings hopes to return to Chicago in the future, “but Los Angeles will enable Coverings to tap into the potential that the Pacific Coast offers.” Coverings is sponsored by the Ceramic Tile Manufacturers Association of Spain (ASCER), Confindustria Ceramica (Italian Association of Ceramics), Tile Council of North America (TCNA), Ceramic Tile Distributors Association (CTDA) and National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA). “We have been looking forward to a move to the West Coast for years now, and we are happy that this will soon be a reality,” said David Portales, promotion manager for Tile of Spain. “California, Los Angeles in particular, is one of the largest U.S. markets for the consumption of ceramics. Spanish companies definitely see this move as a great business opportunity. An East-West balance is a suitable solution to be close to all major tile professionals in America.” Bart Bettiga, executive director, NTCA, agreed. “I’m very excited about the direction of the Coverings board to strategically begin to move the show around to key geographic locations, such as Los Angeles. In general, a significant percentage of the attendees of any trade show are regional in nature. By moving to key markets such as Southern California, we expose our exhibitors’ products to a new audience.” For more on Coverings 2010, call 703.683.8500 or visit coverings.com. |
