Article On behalf of myself, and all Carpet Network owners across the country, we would like to congratulate those mills that realized the negative consequences a price increase would have at this very delicate time in our economy (FCNews, Sept. 28/Oct. 5).

We understand raw materials have increased in price and mills are doing everything within their means to cut costs while maintaining the highest possible level of service. As retail owners we are doing the same.

Although all indicators are positive and we see signs of growth we must continue to be cautious and understand today’s market is much different than those of years past. Mills and retailers must work together understanding not only each other’s needs, but the needs and demands of “today’s” consumer. We must work as a team developing strategies to increase market share for that ever-shrinking expandable dollar.

I believe this is a start, not because you didn’t raise costs, but rather evaluated what was best for all involved and made a business decision that allows us all to work together, building a better business environment for the entire flooring community.
