Article BAAR, SWEDEN—In a move aimed at streamlining processes, generating synergies and harmonizing its brand image worldwide, Pergo’s U.S. and European operations have been merged into one business unit under the new Pergo AG umbrella.

With its corporate headquarters here, Ralf Eisermann, CEO, said all key positions from the two regions have been concentrated. This includes the research and development and marketing and sales departments. He noted the company spent a year preparing for this move and makes it consistent with its motto, “There is only one Pergo.”

Markus Schätzle, head of Pergo’s global marketing and corporate communication, noted despite the corporate realignment the company’s U.S. operations in North Carolina will not be effected. George Kelly remains in charge of North America and the rest of the management team is “very successful, and we will be keeping all of them in their positions.”

Saying this “opens a new chapter in its corporate history,” Eisermann said the advantages of forming the new holding company include: Optimizing processes, simplified voting and accelerated decision-making.

The consolidation also creates the ideal platform for developing and standardizing an even more consistent global brand image, he added. “Whether in the American or the European market, Pergo stands for durable and beautiful premium floors that are particularly easy to install.”

Like the two separate divisions, Pergo AG remains a subsidiary of Pfleiderer and assumes the role of the company’s Business Center Flooring unit which overseas four manufacturing operations—two in Sweden (Trelleborg, Perstorp), one in Garner, N.C., and one in Laval, Canada— produces more than 270 million square feet of residential and commercial laminate flooring and had worldwide sales in 2008 of approximately $466 million.
