Article GRAPEVINE, TEX.—Texas Carpet Recycling (TCR) was honored by the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR) with its 2009 Outstanding Construction & Demolition Debris Reuse/Recycling Leadership Award.

Dee Cassell, TCR’s business manager said, “All of us at Texas Carpet Recycling are thrilled beyond words to receive such a great honor from STAR—it’s wonderful to have our work recognized in such a major way.”

STAR promotes and enhances recycling and diversion activities fostering communication among professionals, organizations, governmental entities by acting as a clearinghouse of recycling resources.

TCR is the only local, full service landfill diversion alternative for commercial carpet. The company offers end-users, dealers and mills an efficient and local alternative to expensive, unsustainable landfills.

Cassell said TCR finds uses for old carpet, no matter what fiber or backing; after sorting, baling, and grinding down used carpet, the company ships it by truck to Georgia where it gets recycled back into carpet.

The company also plants one tree for every ton of carpet processed through its partnership with American Forests. “Every 90 days, we plant an average of 500 trees,” she noted.
