Article MARIETTA, GA, October 6, 2009—Well known for excellence in design and color, Masland Carpets & Rugs is earning a new reputation as a high style manufacturer of wool carpet. A Wools of New Zealand partner since reentering the wool business in 2007, Masland has added to its Fine Wool Creations line every year since its start. The company took time to master working with wool and is manufacturing its latest four wool products, along with other current wool items, at its own tufting facilities in Atmore, AL. All four broadloom products are crafted of 100 percent wool from New Zealand and carry the Wools of New Zealand brand.

Created in similar two-tone loop constructions, Baroque features a swirling filigree design, Cromwell presents stylized petals in a diamond pattern and Laurel shows off small leaves forming a trellis. A unique construction that is highly textural, Parliament is a small-scale check. Color is a Masland specialty and it skein dyes its wool in its own dye house. Colorways for Cromwell, Baroque and Laurel range from fresh pastel pairings to bold black and tan. Cromwell is available in 19 shades, while Baroque and Laurel are offered in 13 tones. Parliament is available in 12 colorations that include woodsy brown paired with beige and green, subtle pastel combinations of white, gray and tan, and neutral beiges with a color pop of green or rose.

“Wool is a very good business for us,” says Daniel M. Phelan, Masland vice president of marketing. “Customers want Masland style and color in New Zealand wool. Our wool business has continued to grow even in a down market.”

Masland has developed new display units to show off its expanding Fine Wool Creations line. Featuring clean lines and rich oak tones, the fixture is available as a vertical hutch and a low profile walk-around unit and holds the entire wool collection. “Right now, there’s a panel in the center for marketing materials, but eventually, the panels can be removed and the unit will hold ten additional styles, as the line expands” adds Phelan.

Suggested retail for Masland’s latest wool styles—carpet only—ranges from about $85 to $95 a square yard.
