| Article | ATLANTA—LG Hausys Floors, the resilient floor covering division of LG Hausys America, has entered the residential flooring market. The decision comes one month after the division was spun off from LG Chem (FCNews, Aug. 3/10) and represents the next logical step to establish the LG flooring brand in North America, according to LG Hausys America president Simon Hong and executive vice president of flooring Dave Thoresen. For the last decade, LG has been manufacturing high-quality commercial LVT, EVT and resilient sheet flooring options. With the move into the residential segment, the company has hired 20-plus year industry veteran Curt Robinson to direct the business. Robinson served as a special consultant to LG during the research phase of the residential launch and began his official duties as vice president of Residential Business on Aug. 17. “Curt offered his expertise over the past eight months to help us better understand the residential flooring segment,” Thoresen said. “After researching the opportunity to enter this channel and reviewing the initial products he developed to differentiate LG flooring in the Main Street segment, we felt he was the appropriate person to direct the business.” LG Hausys Floors has established a distribution model— both to the flooring contractor and retail network—for its new LVT residential offerings. The first introduction, Deco Essential & Advantage LVT, is specifically engineered for the residential contract market. FloorScore certified and manufactured with a minimum of 14% post-consumer recycled materials, Deco offers the realistic look of materials found in nature with the durability and longevity needed to withstand the everyday challenges of multifamily, military, public housing, dormitory and light commercial environments, Robinson said. “The product line utilizes cutting edge, hi- resolution digital imaging to create a wide range of beautiful, life-like replicas of stone and wood flooring at a desirable price point.” Robinson added LG will leverage the brand awareness, innovation in technology and value that consumers have come to expect from the brand’s products across all disciplines. “LG is one of the most recognized and fastest growing global brands. We feel our distributor, retailer and contractor partners can capitalize on this momentum. Not only will our new LVT products provide value from a construction and performance standpoint, the buying experience we will create for the consumer will benefit our distributors and dealers, and ultimately help increase sales for the entire category.” The aforementioned Deco offers “a true wood plank and stone visual” for homeowners, property managers, multifamily, new home construction and light commercial markets, Robinson noted. In addition to being made with postconsumer content it features LG’s Easy Clean UV wear surface. “Deco offers a sustainable flooring option for green projects such as LEED, as well as life-cycle benefits and savings by being so easy to clean and maintain,” he concluded.
