Article BURNSVILLE, MINN.—Preferred Brands, parent of the Floor To Ceiling/World of Floors retail groups, has reached an agreement to market a new line of affordably priced custom cabinetry under the Kathy Ireland Home brand. The line will be sold exclusively at Floor To Ceiling and select Preferred Brands kitchen and bath dealers.

In making the announcement, Steve Sindlinger, president and CEO of Preferred Brands, noted both organizations share the philosophy of providing products that represent fashion, quality, value and safety. “While the Kathy Ireland organization was interested in finding the right vehicle to expand its presence in the home furnishings area, we had been looking at offering a high-value custom kitchen and bath cabinetry line with the appeal of a top name designer for quite some time.”

Many Floor To Ceiling stores already offer Ireland’s Home Living by Shaw area rugs and Home by Alta window treatments, he noted. “This is a dream situation; the marriage of our products with the consumer notoriety of the Kathy Ireland brand is one of the most significant marketing accomplishments in the history of the company.”

Ireland, who is CEO/chief designer of Kathy Ireland Worldwide, acknowledged the agreement marks the company’s first entry into the kitchen and bath cabinetry market. “Our designs, unique color pallet and quality of construction make these cabinets not a luxury but essentials. I’m grateful to the team at Floor To Ceiling for bringing our vision of kitchen and bath cabinetry to life in such a beautiful and powerful way. New homes and affordable renovation are key to families in this economy.”

The new Kathy Ireland Home cabinetry line is comprised of 276 door styles in solid cherry, maple, oak, quarter sawn oak, hickory, pine and alder with rustic variations of each. The collection also includes several thermofoil doors. The number of finishes stands at 72, including combinations of stains, glazes and paints, with the ability to apply custom paints supplied by the customer. In addition, future marketing plans call for the line to include special Kathy Ireland, JduJ and ACafé designs and finish colors.

According to Sindlinger, while the company’s main focus will be with its Floor To Ceiling members, he believes the “uniqueness of the collection has enough inherent advantages to also appeal to kitchen and bath dealers” outside of its current network.
