| Article | DALTON (September 1, 2009)—Mohawk Industries will begin accepting nominations for its second annual GreenWorks Dealer of the Year Award on September 8. The GreenWorks Dealer of the Year Competition pulls together Mohawk’s community of retailers and customers to recognize a spectrum of green and sustainability practices. Any flooring retailer or contractor may apply for the award. Individuals are allowed to nominate themselves or anyone else. Multiple nominations are allowed to be submitted by the same person, but only one nomination form will be considered for each nominee. The award is based on three key criteria: • PROFIT. Without a strong financial footing and growth, no dealer can continue to operate and support the overall community with jobs and economic stability. • PEOPLE. When communities thrive, businesses thrive. The best retailers are active within and make a positive impact on their communities. • PLANET. Every dealer should strive to conserve resources, reduce waste and support environmentally preferred products. The Mohawk GreenWorks Dealer of the Year will receive his or her choice of a professionally-produced, custom television commercial staring HGTV star and Mohawk “handyman” Chip Wade, or a donation for the sustainable cause or project of his or her choice. Nominations can be submitted online through JustMeans.com, a social responsibility website. Mohawk communicates with customers and stakeholders through this website, creating a forum for authentic and transparent communication about its good work. The address for nominations (which will be live September 8) is http://www.justmeans.com/companies/mohawk-industries/3015.html. Nominations can also be done by paper form, but online nominations are encouraged because the social network discussions on JustMeans.com can result in website user votes for nominees that will be considered in judging. Nominations must be received by October 15. “The purpose of this award is to reward retailers who are taking steps to become more sustainable companies, while expanding the conversation about green and sustainable options in flooring” said Jenny Cross, Mohawk’s Residential Senior Sustainability Manager. “We want as many people involved as possible.” Cross said that most stores already have practices in place that would make them eligible for the award. A panel of three sustainable professionals will judge the contest: • Chip Wade – Best known as Mohawk’s Handyman and part of HGTV’s Designed to Sell and Curb Appeal, Chip has a degree in mechanical engineering and is certified in residential construction. He has a passion for green building and renovation. • David Cross – Principle and founding partner of Abeo Partners. David and his partners are experts in sustainable strategies and David developed the “Environmental Advantage” retail course for Mohawk University. • Mike Hughes – Kelly’s Carpet Omaha. Mike won the inaugral GreenWorks Dealer of the Year in 2008. He is a wonderful model of sustainability in retail and has even taken steps to educate other Mohawk retailers about sustainable operations. Judging will begin by October 30, 2009, with a winner announced no later than November 16, 2009. Mohawk GreenWorks is the umbrella of environmental initiatives for Mohawk Industries. Mohawk is the largest recycler in the flooring industry, and the leader in recycled and renewable flooring. Mohawk diverts over three billion pounds of material from landfills each year, and this number is growing. Mohawk’s goal is to develop processes and products that allow the company to focus on the five “Rs” of the GreenWorks platform: reduce, recover, reuse, renew, and recycle.
