ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.—LG Corp. has realigned its subsidiaries with LG Chem spinning off its industrial materials division to create LG Hausys America. The new company represents the industrial materials division for commercial and residential construction materials, everyday materials, auto parts and fabrics.

LG Hausys Floors, the resilient flooring division, which has been supplying North America for over a decade, will join with the company’s window frame, decorative film and countertop divisions, all under the new LG Hausys brand. The reorganization will not affect LG Floors’ day-to-day market strategies.

As part of the realignment, LG Hausys Floors will be relocating its U.S. headquarters from here to Atlanta on Aug. 3. LG Hausys Floors will share the new Atlanta location with all material divisions that serve North America, allowing for greater synergies and lower operating costs for each division.

LG Hausys America’s material divisions will report to one North American president, Simon Hong, to sharpen focus on the new brand while sharing the costs of human resources, information technology, facilities management and other expenses.

“It’s more of an internal LG spin-off,” said executive vice president, David Thoresen, who heads up the LG Hausys Floors division in North America. “LG looked at its various businesses and decided we would be better served on our own. There just wasn’t a lot of synergy with the chemical side of the business.”

He noted that having one president overlooking the company’s materials division “won’t change the manufacturing process or how we go to market, but we’ll be able to consolidate much of our operating costs.”
