| Article | WALLINGFORD, CONN.—The Traditions Golf Club here was the site of the Connecticut Floor Covering Association’s (CFCA) 5th Annual Spring Benefit Golf Outing. This was the first year the organization held the event at the Traditions course. CFCA spokesman Jon Thierfeld of Leggett & Platt’s Carpet Cushion Division, said this was done in an effort to move the outing to different venues around the state to make it easier for a wider range of members to attend. The theory worked, as 96 dedicated golfers participated in the event, despite a “very rain soaked day.” Besides spending a day golfing and networking with colleagues, one of the main reasons why so many people attend the CFCA outing is that proceeds from the event are donated to local charities. This year’s beneficiaries was once again, The House of Bread in Hartford, Conn. as well as the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The House of Bread was founded in 1980 by two nuns to provide food, shelter, housing and education with compassion, dignity and respect to the community’s economically disadvantaged. Despite the tough economic climate, this year’s golf outing raised $3,200 for both charities. The House of Bread has been a favorite of CFCA and over the years the association has donated over $25,000 to the non-profit. Part of the event’s fundraising was an auction that included tickets to a Boston Red Sox game, theater tickets, tickets to the PGA Tour in Hartford and the Pilot Pen Professional Tennis event. While the two charities were the day’s big winners, on the golf course, that honor went to the foursome from McBride’s Carpet in Newington, Conn. “As always a good time was had by everyone involved,” Thierfeld concluded.
