Article WADESBORO, N.C.—Some days are just plain better than others. Just ask the folks at CMH Space Flooring Products, because June 2 turned out to be one of those days.

First, as part of its effort to remain ahead of the competition, the company was awarded with its Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (COC) certificate. This certificate allows CMH to properly promote, sell and distribute FSC products, which not only meet new U.S. regulations on wood products but help in acquiring credits with regard to various environmental building rating systems.

“With all the attention given to the newly signed Lacey Act, which regulates illegally logged materials from entering the U.S., and the acceptance of FSC by the U.S. Green Building Council for its Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) building program, we felt adding FSC products would keep us positioned as leaders in the flooring industry,” explained Charlie Kerfoot, CMH’s wood product manager.

LEED requires all suppliers in the channel have a COC certificate in order to qualify for the credit. The exception is the contractor or sub-contractor who performs the labor is not required to carry a certificate.

“It has always been a focus of CMH to give our customers the necessary tools to be successful in their business,” Kerfoot noted, “and we feel like offering them FSC-certified products gives them a competitive advantage.”

At the same time CMH was getting its COC certificate, the company was named the 2008 National Distributor of the Year for Anderson Hardwood Floors.

“Anderson continues to be on the cutting edge of hardwood flooring fashion,” Kerfoot said of the company’s affiliation with the wood mill, “and we are happy to partner with such a progressive wood manufacturer like Anderson.”
