Article FLUSHING, N.Y.—When it comes to doing the right thing and helping a good cause, few companies have the track record of Consolidated Carpet, one of the nation’s premier full-service flooring contractors. That spirit of kindheartedness was on full display when the Starnet member partnered with Major League Baseball’s New York Mets to benefited The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in raising funds and awareness for a cure.

For the second straight year, Consolidated was the sponsor of the ball club’s Welcome Home Dinner, which not only connects fans with players and management, but also acts as a fundraising event.

The annual affair was attended by the entire organization, including players, coaches and front office staff, and featured raffles and a silent auction with prizes including four VIP tickets to “The Daily Show with John Stewart,” Glamour Gift Baskets, two tickets to a New York Jets game, and a $1,000 Frette gift card to name a few. The evening concluded with a Mets autograph session, where guests had the opportunity to obtain autographs from their favorite players.

This year’s dinner raised over $700,000 to cure Leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

Dave Meberg, president and CEO of Consolidated, said the company has a strong partnership with the Mets, noting that beyond the Welcome Home Dinner, it has signed on to be a sponsor for the opening season of Citi Field, the team’s new home. “The Mets are a great organization and does a tremendous amount of charity in and around the community, and that is something with which we feel very strong about.”

The company’s connection with the Mets and its new home go even deeper than sponsorships. Consolidated was the company chosen by the team to install all the flooring throughout the $800 million ballpark.

The project fell right in with Consolidated’s environmental awareness programs such as reclamation as Citi Field is one of the first stadiums in the country to be constructed using environmentally friendly materials and processes. “Like us, the Mets try to do the right thing,” Meberg concluded, noting that last year Consolidated was able to divert 1 million pounds of used flooring from landfills, something the company has been doing since the 1980s.
