| Article | VERNON, CALIF.—Reliance Carpet Cushion/Los Angeles Fiber recently released Revolution, a new synthetic fiber, double-stick carpet cushion made from 90% post-consumer carpet. “We are revolutionizing the cushion industry,” said Robert Reiss, vice president. “This is the first cushion product that combines quality, feel, price and ease of installation with green raw materials.” He explained that the company collects used consumer carpet from nearby resources to keep emissions footprints to a minimum. It then separates the carpet from its backing and sorts it by fiber type—preparing the material for reuse in Revolution. The commercial and hospitality markets are looking for maximum environmental credits, which requires innovative green products utilizing postconsumer content, Reiss noted. “Not only does Revolution perform for installers, do what a cushion is supposed to do and compete on all levels—including price—with other products on the market, but it also offers a green story that nobody else has, contributing to LEED credits in various capacities,” he said.
