This photo was taken in March 1988, when Howard Brodsky, right, of Dean’s Carpet in Manchester, N.H., congratulated Emile D. Beaulieu on his election as mayor of the city. The twist: Beaulieu (what are the odds he would be in the carpet business with that name?) was a floor covering retailer who began his career in 1948 working for Harry Brodsky at Dean’s as a mechanic. A decade later, he opened Beaulieu’s Floor Coverings and in 1984 sold it. He then entered politics and the rest is history.
