| Article | CHICAGO—Invista’s showroom in the Merchandise Mart, home of NeoCon, has always been known for its cutting-edge design and pursuit of environmental innovation. Its efforts in these areas were recently honored by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which certified the showroom as Gold under its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) green building rating system. The showroom, which houses the fiber producer’s Antron brand, features minimal internal structure and utilizes many of the original 1983 finishes and furniture. Invista directed the design team to reuse as many of the existing finishes as possible. “This minimizes waste and the need for new materials,” noted Melissa Noebes, Antron brand manager, “by creating a multi-use, transformable space similar to a theater stage that can easily change its functionality depending on the event.” This showroom, she added, is a real-world example of Invista’s holistic view of sustainability. “Extending the life of our showroom ensures the environmental benefits certified by our LEED Gold designation can be sustained. This parallels our Antron sustainability approach, creating products that perform for years, thus reducing waste.” In addition to being open for NeoCon, Noebes said the showroom will be used throughout the year for such events as Antron ASAP seminars, which are designed to educate new designers on various carpet and fiber issues. “There is no better place to teach about sustainability than in a showroom featuring old materials to create a fresh, new and functional space.” For more information on Invista, call 877.446.8478. |
