Anderson, S.C.—The Tile Council of Amer ica (TCA) has named Bryant Johnson its ex ecutive director. His responsibilities will include managing the administration of the business, recruiting consultants, industry liaison and sales. Johnson has experience as a tile and stone installer in both North America and Germany. As president of Johnson Tile for the past 14 years, he has built a thriving tile and stone installation business with up to 10 crews working in the northern Virginia and Washington D.C. area.

Johnson is a Ceramic Tile Institute of America certified tile consultant and has been consulting for the past three years. “Since the launch of the TCA team nearly seven months ago, we have experienced a growing demand for on-site inspections, pre-construction consulting and expert opinions across the United States,” said Daniels. “Bryant brings more than 20 years of tile installation, specification writing and consulting experience to the TCA team.”

Finally, Joe Tarver has been named TCA’s 2003 Tile Person of the Year, an honor the organization bestows annually on a person who has been instrumental in increasing the consumption of ceramic tile. With nearly 46 years in the ceramic tile industry, Tarver is recognized for his influential role and guidance of the National Tile Contractor’s Association’s (NTCA). As executive director, he has spent the last 30 years building a small regional organization, the Southern Tile Terrazzo and Marble Contractors Association, to the nationally known NTCA.

In addition to being a moving force in the development of the Coverings show, some of Tarver’s other achievements are the growth of the NTCA’s TileLetter; the TCA Workshop Program, and NTCA’s Reference Manual for contractors. “Joe Tarver has played a vital role in educating contractors regarding new technological advances and tile installation methods through print, electronic media and regional courses,” said Daniels. “It is hard to move a product if it is not installed properly and Joe has made education a goal of the NTCA.”
