Article Located on the first floor of Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, the CTI Showroom is funded by the Chicago Tile Institute promotion fund and the showroom’s various tenants. The Mart is home to the world-famous LuxeHome showcase which “offers one-stop shopping for building and remodeling.” The CTI Showroom is located within the Design Resource Center area of LuxeHome. Installed on a prominent wall for all to see, is a large format glass panel coated with a thin dichroic film from the Modono Glass Tile Collection.

Peggy Batus, CTI Showroom Manager stated, “People that come to our showroom are generally designers looking for new styles and trends. The immediate reaction they have to The Modono Glass Tile Collection is that it is ‘beautiful artwork.’ They like the fact that the Collection comes in various sizes that are not like everyone else’s glass tile.”

A well-known tenant in the CTI Showroom is Mid America Tile, one of the largest tile distributors in the Midwest. Donna Triolo, Mid America’s Design Studio Manager, said that one reason The Modono Glass Tile Collection was chosen to be showcased at the Mart was that it was “the first glass tile of its kind.” She enthusiastically stated, “The product has great potential. Especially for commercial applications such as retail and hospitality construction. Because it is such a diversified glass product, with sizes ranging form small to very large, designers can get very creative with it. And, because it is a sustainable product, it has even more appeal.”

The Modono Glass Tile Collection, designed by Carrie Fazio, is a unique series of glass tile with textures and patterns that respond to varying colors and wavelengths. Its parent company, The Applied Coatings Group, is a leader in optical thin-film technology, creating designer-friendly glass tiles and panels that reflect and transmit specific wavelengths of color depending on the intensity and direction of the light source, as well as the viewer’s perspective.
