| Article | LAS VEGAS—Inspections 2009, which is loaded with information every flooring inspector or aspiring inspector should know, is slated for Feb. 2 here. Highlights include classes on inspecting green carpet, the latest on what commissioners want to see on reports, as well as new and improved report writing software. “You need the CEUs and the information from the I-09 program, and we need your money,” said Carl Williams, president of the Academy of Textiles & Flooring. As for what the commissioner wants in its report, “How do we make them happy?” Williams asked. “Fiber producers, mills, retailers, installers and cleaners all want something different. Does the underling want to protect his butt or can he handle the truth?” Another topic is what to look for when inspecting green carpet. “I don’t think it’s easy producing a carpet that building owners and homeowners want to buy,” he said. “Is a recycled carpet held to the same standard as original extruded yarn? When we identify the fiber shape and, therefore, the yarn, and shave off the face fiber, how does it become carpet again?” What about the current economic times? “Do we need to reduce our fees for inspection, travel, gas, etc.?” Williams asked. “What is the average cost of an inspection? Should we take a new look at the approach to these charges?” Inspections 2009 takes a look at all “the problems that have been created by our economy and the opportunities that we as inspectors will have in the coming year,” Williams said. The program will take place at the Imperial Palace. Cost is $149. For more information, call 800.551.9378 or e-mail info@atfinfo.com. |
