Article HICKSVILLE, N.Y.—During a slow market, not only do retailers struggle, but so do installers and contractors, who are strapped looking for work in often time-consuming methods—Yellow Pages, in-store visits, want adds, etc. Now, there is a fast, easy common ground catering both sides of the industry.

The Floorboard Online (www.thefloorboardonline.com) allows members to review, respond to and post ads for help and/or availability in a real-time, up-to-date fashion, which can lead to one or several jobs, possibly even a permanent position, explained Dennis Jarensky, founder with 25-plus years of industry experience in installation, contracting and retail.

For installers, The Floorboard Online provides “an instant Rolodex of stores and retailers at your fingertips, which you can review online with immediate feedback and results,” Jarensky explained. And, the site provides each member with a full profile— including capabilities, certifications, years of experience, number of workers and vehicles available, working radius, references, insurance, etc.—where installers are able to post availability and promote their services.

On the flip side, a membership provides retailers with an instant Rolodex of installers, which can be reviewed online with immediate feedback and results, he noted. Dealers can also post profiles including store information as well as requirements for specific upcoming jobs.

“With the current economic crisis, I think the site is especially important because it gives stores and installers a new venue as far as looking for work,” he said. “The trade has long needed a way for this type of connection, so I guess it goes without saying, it’s about time.”

And, the site has already found some success, registering nearly 400 members nationwide in its trial beta phase, which began last October. However, now in its live phase, Jarensky said there are definite plans for expansion. In the near future, The Floorboard Online plans to connect with the general public, allowing members to utilize the site as a form of advertising. Long term, Jarensky said an open forum, bulk purchasing and overall industry and technology news/updates are visible.

“And, if you join before Dec. 31, you’ll receive 50% off your one-year membership,” he explained, as part of the site’s expansion/marketing strategy. “We hope to have the largest database of its kind, making this extremely beneficial to our members and the industry.”
