| Article | PHILADELPHIA—When it comes to installation the ability to do the job right the first time in a professional manner is the most important element to pleasing the customer. Recognizing this, nearly two dozen companies have recently joined the International Standards and Training Alliance (INSTALL) to ensure their people are trained properly. “INSTALL’s mission to raise the bar of flooring installer skills is incredibly bolstered by this overwhelming show of industry support,” said John McGrath, director of INSTALL. “Every one of these new members has already pledged to help keep our training curriculum on the cutting edge, and a number of them have already given their time and expertise toward that goal.” INSTALL now has over 70 partners. Among the new members are: Advanced Adhesive Technology, Beno J. Gundlach, Blakely Products, Blueridge Carpet, Contract Options, Contract Resource Group, Delmhorst Instrument, Erickson’s Flooring, Horizon Building Products, Interlock Industries, ITW Industrial Fastening/ Duo-Fast, Karndean International, LD Commercial Solutions, Legacy Cements, Lock-Crete, Pro-Knee, Radio Distributing, SilPro, Skehan & Associates, Tandus and XL Brands. As an INSTALL partner, McGrath said members are asked to provide technical and education counsel regarding the curriculum by which INSTALL flooring professionals are taught. “That curriculum— written and provided by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ International Training Fund—is updated regularly in order to consistently include new technologies, tools and installation methods into both apprentice and veteran skill enhancement training, so that what’s taught reflects current job site needs.” Dena Withrow, XL’s marketing coordinator, said the adhesives manufacturer “unconditionally endorses and embraces the philosophy that INSTALL represents. Effective and available installation training can only impact the entire industry in a positive manner. Our industry is becoming more technically oriented with new and existing flooring systems focusing on minimizing and ultimately eliminating negative environmental impact. With the foundational training that INSTALL offers the installation community, overall effectiveness and customer satisfaction can only improve.” David Powell, president of Erickson’s, noted the company has a long history of promoting installation training for its customers, “so it only makes sense for us to get involved with an organization like INSTALL that will bring this kind of training to the next level. Everyone benefits in the flooring industry when the consumer gets what she wants, and that is a quality product installed right.” For more information about INSTALL, call 215.582.4108. |
