Article DALTON (August 20, 2008)—Jenny Cross has been promoted to Senior Sustainability Manager, Residential at Mohawk Industries, a new position. Previously, she was Brand Manager for Residential Soft Surface Products.

She will serve as Mohawk’s internal and external expert in environmental marketing and work with Manufacturing, Product Development, Marketing and Sales to provide strategic analysis, opportunity assessment and content management as well as conduct key customer presentations.

Cross will be the company’s residential division sustainability champion for both soft and hard surfaces, and will focus on creating superior value and position Mohawk GreenWorks as the industry’s leading environmental program.

Mohawk GreenWorks is a platform that encompasses all Mohawk green projects for management and information. GreenWorks is designed to help people understand how much effort goes into this process—and how it impacts every level of Mohawk Industries.

“Jenny’s new position is one that is critical to Mohawk,” said David Duncan, Vice President of Marketing. “Environmental issues are a daily part of our business, and Jenny’s insights and experience will help us take advantage of the opportunities that come from being green.”

Cross joined Mohawk in 2004. In her previous position, she was responsible for brand and marketing strategy for the Mohawk residential carpet business which includes the Aladdin, Horizon and Wunda Weve brands. She was instrumental in helping bring Mohawk’s innovative SmartStrand Fiber made with DuPont Sorona renewably source polymer to market. With SmartStrand, 37% of the petroleum used to produce the fiber is replaced with renewable resources such as corn sugar. Seven yards of carpet made with SmartStrand Fiber made with DuPont Sorona renewably source polymer save the energy equivalent of one gallon of gasoline.

She began working in the flooring industry right out of college, starting as a supervisor in Queen Carpet’s Tifton, Ga. yarn plant and then assuming responsibility for quality control. She later joined Monsanto, now Solutia, in Research and Development, then moved into tech service and ultimately into mill merchandising for Wear-Dated before joining Mohawk.

Mohawk leads the floorcovering industry in many environmental efforts, and has been cited by government agencies as a pioneer for other industries to follow. Mohawk is the largest recycler in the in the flooring industry, currently diverting more than three billion pounds of pre- and post-consumer waste from landfills. More than 500 Mohawk products—carpet, carpet tiles, cushion, laminates, and ceramic tile—contain recycled materials.
