| Article | CARTERSVILLE, GA.—Aquafil USA has launched Econyl 75, a high-performance fiber containing 75% recycled content. Econyl 75 is a type 6, solution-dyed BCF nylon fiber recovered through the unified efforts of the company’s Italian parent, The Aquafil Group, and users of Alto Chroma BCF yarn. According to Roy Hickman, product development for Aquafil USA, some of the U.S. users of the Alto yarn are Interface, Shaw, Mohawk, Northwest, Burtco, Mountville Mills, Shaheen Carpets and Variations. “Some of these companies use the Aquafil fiber identification while others use their own brand name, i.e., Interface uses the name Struttura.” Econyl 75 is constructed from 70% postindustrial and 5% post-consumer content, he noted. The remaining 25% is composed of virgin polymer to readily accommodate additives and pigments. “Econyl 75 also retains the high-performance characteristics of Alto Chroma’s continuous filament structure, making its strength and lifecycle comparable to fiber crafted from 100% virgin polymer.” Franco Rossi, Aquafil USA’s president, said the amount of Econyl 75 produced mirrors an equivalent reduction in products made from crude oil. “This innovative fiber provides our manufacturing partners with a viable, environmentally sound product.” For more information about Econyl 75, please call Aquafil at 678.605.8109. |
