| Article | By Steven Feldman HICKSVILLE, N.Y.—Curt Thompson, president of Wilsonart Flooring, is leaving the company after 13 years to assume a similar position with San Francisco-based B.R. Funsten, one of the largest flooring distributors in the U.S. The move takes effect July 1. “This is a great opportunity to apply my skills to a new part of the business,” Thompson told FCNews. “I always had tremendous respect for Jim and what he has done over the years, and this allows me to contribute to his continued success and be a part of this world-class company.” Jim Funsten, owner and current president, will remain as chairman and CEO. “Curt has proven over our 10-year relationship that he is an intelligent, aggressive, forward-thinking young man who wants to grow personally as well as our company. I look forward to working with him to continue the growth of B.R. Funsten.” Thompson, who will also serve as COO, will initially focus on increasing his exposure on the distribution business, further strengthening his knowledge and relationships with the key customers. “Naturally, I want to continue to support Jim and his family’s long-term vision. And there are a number of key suppliers with which I need to develop a relationship.” Thompson, who had been with Wilsonart since its entrée into flooring, ascended from Southeast district manager to national accounts director, national sales manager, director of sales and marketing, and for the last four years president of the flooring division. Under his leadership, he and his team grew the business, particularly on the commercial side for which Wilsonart introduced a dedicated product last year. “This is a market that is critical for the long-term growth of the company.” He also believes that the laminate producer’s Synergy preferred retailer program will be an important component of the business going forward. “Synergy significantly enhanced our relationships with our most important customers.” It is not without some sadness that Thompson moves on, but as one ofWilsonart’s largest customers, the move will allow him maintain a close relationship. And he is leaving it in good hands. “Wilsonart, along with its parent, ITW, is a phenomenal company that I care deeply about. There is a strong leadership group in place that will ensure it will deliver results for customers and shareholders.” B.R. Funsten, which includes the Tom Duffy Co., and serves California, Nevada and Arizona, reported sales in 2007 greater than $160 million. |
