| Article | By Steven Feldman HICKSVILLE, N.Y.—FCNews learned at press time that Frank Peters has been named president of Mohawk Industries effective immediately. He replaces Monte Thornton, who is retiring. Details were not immediately available, but Peters, formerly senior vice president of operations for Mohawk Flooring, assumed his new position May 1. Peters most recently had responsibility for all raw material production, residential and commercial manufacturing, and distribution services. “Under Frank’s leadership, Mohawk has rationalized manufacturing and product development, implemented process improvement systems and driven operational and service enhancements,” the company said. “He has positioned Mohawk to meet ongoing challenges in the industry.” Peters joined Mohawk in May 1993 as director of product development. Over the last 15 years, he also served as vice president of research and development and vice president of manufacturing services for residential before becoming senior vice president of operations in October 2007. His 38 years of industry experience also included stints at Armstrong, Salem Carpet Mills and Shaw Industries. Thornton, 67, joined Karastan Bigelow, a division of Fieldcrest Cannon, in July 1990 and was named president of Karastan at the time of its acquisition by Mohawk in July 1993. He served in that position until April 2000, when he became president of the Fashion and Performance Division. On Dec. 1, 2001, Thornton was appointed president of Mohawk Flooring, assuming responsibility for sales, marketing and manufacturing of carpet and hard surface products. Before joining Karastan, Thornton served as president of Hollytex, which he joined in December 1984. (Editor’s note: FCNews will have more on Peters in an upcoming issue.) |
