| Article | KANSAS CITY, MO.—The International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association (CFI) is now accepting applications for its Presidents’ Scholarship, which was established in 2007 in memory of fallen past presidents of the organization. CFI’s second president, Doug Amundson, who served in the post from 1998 to 2000, passed away in 2007 at the age of 60. The association’s fifth president, Andrew Aufiero, who served from 2004 to 2006, also passed away in ’07 at age 53. The Presidents’ Scholarship is awarded annually by CFI in honor of past presidents who served the organization with distinction, noted Jim Walker, CFI’s CEO. “Doug and Andrew’s love of installation and their determination to encourage and train flooring installers led Glenn Olsen, chairman of the fund, to steer the committee to establish the annual scholarship. Because of the financial support of those in attendance at the 2007 convention and remembrance gifts received from Doug and Andrew’s many friends, the scholarship fund was established for an installer to attend the CFI convention.” The installer who is selected will receive full payment of all convention fees, lodging for four nights and transportation expenses. Fund winner qualifications: • CFI-certified installer who has not previously attended a convention. • The installer must possess the determination to be successful, the desire to learn, a drive to be the best and the ability to communicate and share with others. • The installer commits to attending the convention from July 31 through Aug. 2. • Nomination form must be received by July 7. “We look forward to receiving numerous applications that will enhance educational knowledge of the qualified installer,” Olsen said, “allow him or her to participate with others who exhibit the pride of craftsmanship and be willing to share these traits with others. This experience of an opportunity to network with industry representatives and flooring installers, who believe in and practice the CFI goals and principles, will be long remembered. We look forward to receiving many applications.” The fund was established with a financial commitment from CFI members. Contributions are welcome and will be collected annually at the CFI convention for future scholarships. For more information, please call 516.903.7664. |
