Article | Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) speaks to employees and executives of Shaw Industries as well as members of the media during a visit to the mill’s Waste to Energy (WTE) and Plant 81 facilities last month. The senator called the WTE plant cutting edge. “When I see a pile of nylon that would usually end up on the side of the street used for energy, it’s exciting. Turning this by- roduct into steam is something to be proud of.” Gary Nichols, Shaw’s energy manager, said the WTE facility saves over 2.5 million gallons of fuel a year and converts approximately 14,100 tons of combined post-industrial and post-consumer carpet waste, and 9,000 tons of wood flour per year. |
