Article Boston-based ASID Industry Partner Barbara Jacobs, of Barbara Jacobs Color and Design, announces a new showroom affiliation for Silk Road Weaves™ in New England.

Jacobs adds this new dimension to her work of over 20 years as an architectural color consultant and artist, applying her passion for color and her philosophy of supportive color design to creating these new collections. Jacobs views the floor as an integral part of a room where color and pattern are concerned. “I consider the function of a space along with the aesthetics, to create harmonious and effective environments. Using these rugs combines functionality with inspiration, and color + texture is a big part in creating the comfort of an interior” states Jacobs.

Launching Silk Road Weaves™ late in 2007, Jacobs is pleased to be working with K.Powers & Company, a long-established showroom of fine rugs and furnishings. Based in Needham, Massachusetts, the company has been in business to the trade for the past 15 years. K.Powers & Company is also an ASID Industry Partner who represents some of the world’s finest rug makers. As a full-service rug showroom,

K.Powers & Company is not only able to work with customers seeking unique options in custom rugs, but takes care of all deliveries and installation as well.

Silk Road Weaves™ , Jacobs’ line of her original design collections of RugMark-certified hand knotted Tibetan Rugs, offers myriad customization options to the existing varied design styles. Current collections are: Flora, Loopy, LoopyGems, Elements, and BrushWorks. New collections are in the works at this time. To date, all pieces are made to order.

A member of RugMark, the independent monitoring organization for handmade rugs, Jacobs can guarantee that all rugs from Silk Road Weaves use no illegal child labor. Rugs from Silk Road Weaves™ are entirely handmade.

More than color, Jacobs uses only sustainable materials: Himalayan wool, and Silk, with some designs including the plant fiber Allo (“giant Himalayan nettle”) for added textural and color interest even in some of the more graphically simple designs. States Jacobs, ‘While it is exciting to use the myriad colors that are available in the materials we use, I also have a fascination with reaching for textural nuances that are often more satisfying when used with a graphic simplicity. It can be as fascinating to look at the work up close as it is to see it in a larger scale on a floor. It’s a different experience. The combination of color + texture creates a more satisfying environment that has nothing to do with trends. It’s about the human experience and our innate responses to those elements.”

Showroom owner Kathleen Powers states, “We are delighted to be representing Barbara’s creations. They are unique in color and design, as well as being of very high quality. We look forward to great successes together.”
