Article | St. Louis—Tony Prince, president of Tony Prince Co., announced his retirement from the International Labor-Management Committee for the floor covering industry. The committee oversees an ongoing initiative to increase the quality and professionalism of floor covering installers through the International Standards and Training Alliance (INSTALL) program. It consists of 14 veterans from the flooring industry representing contractors and installers in the U.S. and Canada, and is affiliated with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Prince is a founding member of the committee and served as management co-chairman from 1990 to 2006 before handing the title over to David Meberg, CEO of Consolidated Carpet in New York. In announcing his retirement, Prince noted, “INSTALL has come a long way since those early days, thanks to a lot of hard work by a lot of dedicated people. I leave this committee in the hands of dedicated professionals on both sides of the table. And they know I’m always just a phone call away.” Meberg, on behalf of the committee, applauded Prince’s work. “He has been an integral member and could always be counted on for sage advice, insightful input and steady leadership as INSTALL grew to what it is today.” To help fill the void left by Prince, Michael Gould, president of Gould Flooring Services of Highland, Ill., and Jamie Gilmore, president of Pavilion Floors in Boston, have been named to the committee. Gould, who has been in the flooring industry nearly four decades and is also currently the president of the Flooring Industry Council of Greater St. Louis, said, “INSTALL is a great program for union members and contractors alike, based primarily on the United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ commitment to see all union members complete the certification.” Gilmore is a 23-year industry veteran and is also a member and director of the Northeast Flooring Contractors Association (NFCA). “Promoting and endorsing the INSTALL program affirms my company’s commitment to our clients, as well as our employees, to being the premier full-service contract flooring company in the Northeast region. Because of the clear and standardized set of verifiable skills for our craftsmen we are more efficient and reliable in all aspects of our dealings with our clients as compared to those firms who tend to overlook accountability in their dealings in the market place.” To learn more about INSTALL or the International Labor Management Committee, call 215.582.4108. |
