| Article | Dalton—Celebrity designer Thom Filicia recently traveled west to host a fall round of “Decorating From the Floor Up” Live! seminars. Following a successful spring run in Chicago and Boston, Filicia—in partnership with Karastan and Solutia’s Wear Dated carpet fiber—took his much anticipated, interactive workshop to audiences in Phoenix and Seattle in October. The Phoenix show was also co-sponsored by Baker Brothers with all proceeds from both events benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation. Filicia is an acclaimed interior designer, heralded for his innovative decorating techniques on Bravo’s “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” and The Style Network’s “Dress My Nest.” His Decorating From the Floor Up seminars, held “live” at select venues, take attendees on a creative journey beginning with a Karastan rug or carpet. Along the way, Filicia shares his expert advice, answers questions and invites volunteers on-stage to assist in the selection of furnishings, textiles, wall coverings and window treatments. Through the use of multi-media, Filicia fully decorates a room—then redecorates it—to demonstrate how the floor can inspire a variety of different looks. “Events like Decorating From the Floor Up (DFFU) reinforce the Karastan brand while motivating and educating consumers,” explained Connie Berry, director of marketing. “We’ve amplified this program with in-store DFFU seminars that are conducted by traveling design experts. These events offer our retailers a service that no other floor covering manufacturer can match.” Karastan is planning several “live” seminars with Filicia in 2008 and organizing more DFFU events on the local level as well.
