Article | St. Paul, Minn.—Shaw’s recent work with McGough Cos. constructing Reflections at Bloomington Central Station has been noticed, as the multi-unit housing complex was awarded LEED certification for new construction (LEED-NC) by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). For the project, Shaw provided 100,000 square feet of laminate—Rustic and Natural Sensations—which feature its EnviroCore and approximately 6,000 yards of Perception 1, a recyclable type 6 nylon carpet. The USGBC’s recent decision puts Reflections among the first LEED-certified, for sale, multi-unit residential projects in the country. The LEED certification was based on a number of green design and construction features, that, among other things, included creative integration of recycled materials—building components, from the concrete structure to the aluminum frame, include recycled content. This provison is where Shaw’s eco-friendly floors came into play. Rick Fedrizzi, president and CEO of USGBC, said the housing complex “will be a showcase for high-performance, energy-efficient, healthy buildings and an inspiration for others.” For more information on Shaw’s green products, contact John Bradshaw, environmental marketing manager, at 706.275.4149. |
