| Article | Lewes, Delaware (June 25, 2007) --- When it comes to cleaning up the holiday party mess, red wine, and blueberries top the list of food and beverage stains that are most difficult to remove, especially on white carpets and rugs. The O.C. Floor Gallery and the Carpet and Rug Institute, are teaming up to provide homeowners and other party hosts with some handy cleaning tips to help avoid permanent stains and other damage commonly associated with colorful and/or acidic foods including guacamole, salsa, mustard and cola. The tips are coupled with advice to avoid using cleaning agents and spot removers that are no more effective than water and, in some cases, can cause more damage to flooring than the spill itself. “Soaps and detergents can leave a sticky residue that can attract soil and other harmful elements to carpet fibers, leaving the carpet even more vulnerable to stains,” stated Chris Williams, President, O.C. Floor Gallery. “Not all exactors are effective in removing stains, and few are recommended for general household use.” O.C. Floor Gallery offers the following tips for carpet cleaning: · Remove spills immediately. The longer it stays, the harder it is to remove. · Dry spills-- Remove as much of the substance as possible using a spoon, brush or spatula. Vacuum thoroughly to remove loosened particles. Pouring liquid into a dry spill can create new problems. · Wet spills—Blot with a clean, dry, absorbent white cloth or paper towel to transfer the spill from the carpet to the cloth. Absorb any remaining moisture by placing several layers of paper towels over the damp area and weighing them down with a heavy object. · Always blot—never rub or scrub. When blotting, work from the outer edge of the spot or spill toward the center to avoid spreading the spill. · Vacuum areas of the carpet that get light traffic once or twice a week, more for high traffic areas. O.C. Floor Gallery suggests professional cleaning services for stubborn stains and soil embedded in the carpet that may require deep cleaning by trained and certified flooring technicians. Many cleaning products display the Carpet and Rug Institute seal of approval for use on soils and stains. It is recommended that consumers check individual carpet manufacturers suggested maintenance guidelines or consult our professional flooring technicians for advice on how to handle problems associated with carpet cleaning or replacement. O.C. Floor Gallery, recognized as the Eastern Shore’s top flooring company, has been serving the entire Delmarva area with quality products and services for nearly a decade. The company has established an impressive record of award winning sales and service in Maryland and Delaware. For more information, visit our website, www.ocfloorgallery.com. |
