| Article | Washington—The North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA) celebrates the 10th anniversary of its first meeting as a chartered group held at Surfaces. Beginning as a small cluster of leaders—including reps from Pergo, Wilsonart, Uniboard, Formica and Witex—in what was then North America’s semi-new laminate segment, NALFA has grown today to include 11 regular members and 17 associate members, and has made several advancements for the industry’s standards in both commercial and residential sectors. Bill Dearing, president of NALFA, commented on the association’s greatest achievements noting, though the group has made many strides to better the laminate flooring category, the accomplishment that holds strongest in his mind is the voluntary performance standards for residential, light commercial and commercial markets. “Because of these standards, we were able to gradually raise awareness that there are differences among laminate flooring.” The association continues taking steps and improving quality control, as it recently encouraged members to display the NALFA Certification Seal (FCNews 4/2) on all product packaging and to then promote NALFA-certified products. “An immediate goal is to educate the trade on the importance of the NALFA Certification Seal, and placing it on product packaging is an easy method for recognizing the quality of the product,” Dearing said. In the future, the group is hoping to spread the NALFA Certification Seal as far as the consumer recognition level. Dearing noted, “The visible NALFA Certification Seal will give an assurance of product performance that will lead to an increase in sales of laminate flooring within North America: an obvious goal of NALFA.” |
