| Article | Hicksville, N.Y.—Current worldwide demand for components of certain raw materials used in the production of Congoleum resilient flooring products has caused the producers of these raw materials to raise their selling prices. As a result, prices on all Congoleum products will increase by 3% to 5% starting May 15. As for other resilient manufacturers, as of press time, Tarkett Residential had not announced any price increases, while both Tarkett Commercial and Mannington Mills had. Tarkett Commercial will implement a 2% to 6% raise on all its commercial resilient tile products. The percent increase will vary between collections. “The continual rise in energy costs dramatically affects not only our production costs, but also escalates freight expenses,” said Gilles de Beaumont, president of Tarkett Commercial in North America. “Considering how these factors influence our cost, Tarkett will issue a moderate price increase to go into effect June 1 on all commercial tile. We will continue working diligently to minimize our manufacturing cost increases and to assure that our products stay competitive in the market place.” Mannington announced it will be implementing a price increase on a number of its commercial and residential resilient products. The company cites tightening global demand for certain primary feed-stocks, higher oil and natural gas prices, and higher transportation costs as reasons for the increase. Effective with shipments on June 4, prices will increase by 3% to 5% on Adura Luxury Floors, Stainmaster vinyl, VCT and select Mannington sheet vinyl. “We’ve seen a continued increase in costs related to fuel used to operate our plants, inbound and outbound transportation, and key raw material components,” said Tom Davis, Mannington’s president/CEO. “Although increases are impacting the industry in virtually every product category, resilient flooring remains an excellent value to the consumer.” Meanwhile, at Nafco by Tarkett, officials had yet to decide whether they would also be increasing prices. “On our tile and plank,” said Pierre Lefort, Nafco’s general manager, “we are studying the [situation] to see if we will raise prices or not. If we do, it probably will be in the area of 2% to 4%.” |
