Article Dalton—Mohawk Industries has named Brian Carson president of its hard surfaces division. The move is part of a restructuring of its soft and hard surfaces division.

According to a Mohawk official, the Mohawk sales team management has been separated into soft surface and hard surface products in order to align with the territory managers who have been carrying either soft surface or hard surface products for some time now.

Carson’s primary focus will be to build on the momentum Mohawk has created for its hardwood, laminate, ceramic and resilient products in both sales and profitability. He will continue to direct the development of Mohawk’s hard surface sales organization and report to Monte Thornton, president of the Mohawk Flooring Division.

Before joining Mohawk, Carson worked for Armstrong, rising to head of North American operations for both resilient and hardwood products.

In a related move, Rik Born was appointed vice president of Eastern sales for hard surface products. Born will provide sales leadership, expertise and management for Mohawk’s Southeast, Northeast, Ohio Valley and North Central regions. He will report to Bob Leahy, senior vice president of sales-hard surfaces.

Born also comes from Armstrong, with nearly 30 years of experience in positions ranging from vice president, residential flooring sales, to president, installation products.
