Article New York—The Doris Leslie Blau Gallery is adding a new category to it resume. Partnering with two top fashion designers—Tommy Hilfiger and Nanette Lepore—the gallery is introducing their exclusive rug designs on March 8, 2007.

The two featured designers have now translated their artistic talents and award-winning fashion sense into the world of home fashion. The Fashion Designer Collection, featuring two exclusive designs by Hilfiger and one by Lepore, will debut at a gala launch on March 8. The cocktail party, a fundraiser for Gilda’s Club World-wide, will auction all four original rugs, each signed by its creator, with the proceeds benefiting the charity.

“This collection is unique in that no other company has partnered with these two top designers to create a line of rugs,” said Nader Bolour, president of the Doris Leslie Blau Gallery. “The new collection represents the marriage of interior design and home fashion.”

Tommy Hilfiger has created two rugs, both inspired by his brand’s nautical roots. The first rug is a tailored navy and red chain-link pattern that is handmade of 100% Tibetan wool. The second rug carries a blue and white anchor motif in a handmade Aubusson weave, made of 100% wool.

Lepore’s rug is a whimsical interpretation of one of the designer’s own fabrics. The multi-colored rug features a pattern of peacock feathers with tassel accents. Made from the all-natural banana leaf fiber, it is luxurious to the look and touch with a more “organic” quality than pure silk, noted Bolour.

The Doris Leslie Blau Gallery is acknowledged for its extensive and impressive antique carpet collection, Custom Carpet Department and 20th Century Decorative Arts Division.
