Play ball! This photo was taken in 1982 at the Minneapolis summer market. Horizon Industries and Allied Chemical sponsored an all-star baseball team in the Carson Pirie Scott classic. Up to this point, it’s logical. Now, in the photo are the all-stars, from left, Ron Roy of Allied; Jim Celentano of Horizon; a friend, and Al Andersen of Allied. Here’s the rub: The three turkeys didn’t have to do very much to win the game; their “friend” is—look close—Brooks Robinson, baseball great enshrined in the Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. I have a feeling Celentano came to bat without his helmet and took a fastball in the head.
