| Article | Las Vegas—Surfaces 2007 is gearing up for another exciting event in showcasing the latest floor covering fashions, trends, tools and technologies, to be held Feb. 6 to 9 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center here. With an estimated 1,000 exhibiting companies planning to attend, as well as the addition of a designer/ architect program, and a wider variety of workshops and educative sessions, this year’s market will offer something for everyone, said Nicole Buraglio, senior marketing manager of Hanley Wood, Surfaces’ owner. New this year, Surfaces is offering an exclusive, educational program series targeted specifically to designers and architects on upcoming trends in product styles and colors, Buraglio said. Designers and architects can choose from a “Show Package” that runs the entire course of Surfaces or a “Day Package” to take place on Feb. 8. A few notable program features are: a keynote luncheon on “Finding your Design Inspiration” with speaker Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz, named one of America’s “Most Brilliant Decorators” by House Beautiful, as well as a networking reception at Tao Las Vegas on Feb. 8. Both the luncheon and reception are included in the one-day or multi-day packages or they can be purchased separately. This year’s market is sure to promise “more business-building ideas; more strategic information and training,” said Buraglio. The four-day Education Conference program schedule will be broken into five tracks to target individual interests. The categories—business, design, installation, marketing and sales—will consist of a variety of specific seminars and educative workshops, in addition to over a half dozen designer/architect sessions. Three-hour workshops offering “smaller, more personalized sessions” will be held on Feb. 6, the day before the exhibit floor opens, along with 90-minute seminars during market hours. She noted many of the conference sessions qualify for Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) with a wide variety of organizations and associations. Adding to the “wider-option” premise, Surfaces 2007 will also be presenting new content in its Conference Program, consisting of 42 sessions and offering specific areas of study within each of the five tracks, Buraglio said. The North American Association of Floor Covering Distributors will also be offering a session to help members grasp the importance of value-added selling for their businesses. Relevantly, the World Floor Covering Association will provide testing for its three certification programs—Flooring Executive, Flooring Sales Consultant and Flooring Professional—in recognization of career achievement. In the same way, installers will be provided with a large range of “techniques and cost-cutting solutions,” Buraglio said. Surfaces’ annual Installation Showcase will consist of live demonstrations on topics such as proper backerboard installation to prevent moisture and mold repair, laminate repairs through the use of hot melt wax and color filler techniques and moisture testing in concrete, which is a major concern for all installers. To register for Surfaces ‘07 online and/or to make travel arrangements, visit www.surfaces.com. Exhibits admission is free with registration by Jan. 8, afterwards it will cost $25. |
