Article AVON, CONN.—The Connecticut Floor Covering Association (CFCA) came to the aid of one of its own during the organization’s Fall Golf Outing and Annual Meeting. Traditionally, the event is used to raise money for CFCA’s College Scholarship Fund, but this year the group broke from tradition to help Jim Guerra, who was battling cancer, and his family.

Guerra, who worked for BKM Floor Covering for more than 20 years, unfortunately lost his personal battle the day of the event. Nonetheless, the numerous donations and tee sponsors enabled CFCA to give $12,000 to the Jim Guerra Family Fund, which will be used to help his widow and four boys.

“We all express our deepest sympathies to the Guerra family,” said Jon Thierfeld of Leggett & Platt and a past president of the group.

At the association’s annual meeting portion of the event, the following were elected as officers: Joe DeMaio of Couristan Carpet, president; Brian Booth of Booth Flooring, vice president; Rick Shane of Bestflor Distributors, secretary, and John Haberlin of International Granite & Marble, treasurer.
