| Article | Steuler Fliesen, manufacturer of high-end, high-quality ceramic tile, teamed up with Paris-based and world-renowned designer, Phillippe Starck, and YOO USA architectural firm to create an exquisite, luxurious room entirely clad in Steuler’s new gold mosaics. YOO USA and Starck’s concept was to construct a completely gold room, one that would be breathtaking at first glance in the lobby of the Landmark Equitable Trust Building, the former headquarters for J.P. Morgan and Co. located in the heart of New York City. The building, owned by Boymelgreen Developers, consists of 382 high-end residential apartments located on the 7th through 40th floors, totaling almost 15,000 square feet. Aiming to create an entirely gold room, which Stark called an “ethereal cloud of light,” Steuler developed an exclusive gold tile to match Stark’s size, texture and material needs, for what is now referred to simply as: “The Gold Room.” “This is very special material,” Paul Heldens, CEO of Steuler-Fliesen said. “Our people actually created the gold tile for this installation at the request of team YOO, and we used real gold in the makeup of each and every tile.” Gold Tiles by Steuler, which come in 22 x 30 cm basic tiles and 30 x 30 cm floor tiles, combine minimalism and opulence. Set and grouted with Laticrete International’s innovative system, the tiles made of real gold create a huge mosaic wall designs, which can be continued on the floor with more texture and slip resistance. Steuler’s Gold Tiles create a luxurious space that is easy to maintain and durable “It’s a bold statement without compromise. The type of thing that (YOO USA) does well.” said Mark Davison, head of design at YOO USA. “The goal was to create an all gold room, everything from walls, ceiling, furniture and fittings. We have used metallic tile on other projects, but this time we have found a very interesting one.” That “very interesting tile” from Steuler-Fliesen would come to adorn not only the floor, but also the walls and the ceiling of the room, producing a space that seemed to glow from within. Utilizing an array of lavish materials, the tile installation was a custom done procedure, and one that required careful consideration. Starting with the vision of Starck and utilizing the expertise of one of Europe’s finest tile manufacturers, Steuler-Fliesen, the final result inside the Landmark Equitable Trust Building is simply exquisite.
