| Article | A new and exciting floor from Special Hardwood Products is its Rappgo Thermo-line of 8" wide plank flooring, well known domestic species of wood turned into dark and richer looking floors. It is all done with heat, no chemicals are used in the process. The flooring lumber goes through a process where it is subjected to high heat, as high as 400 degrees. This is done in a vacuum to prevent the wood from charring. It is possible to achieve different shades of color, depending on the temperature and time in the process. As different woods react differently to the thermo process, it is important to choose species, which are not significantly altered in physical character, other than color. In order to determine how a wood specie reacts, extensive testing is done to inspect the wood after thermo treatment. When this is done, the final color is achieved by adjusting the time the lumber is subjected to the process. The end result is a complete transformation. White oak is turned into a color as dark as ebony, all with the use of heat. Commonly known species of wood turn into exotic, darker shades of brown or red. The thermo treatment transforms the entire thickness of the lumber, so no matter how many times the floor is sanded, the new color remains. Samples of Thermo Oak, Thermo Ash, and Thermo Arctic Pine may be viewed here: http://specialhardwood.com/rappgo/products/index.html For more infomation on Special Hardwood Products, please call 800-344-2675 or visit www.specialhardwood.com |
