Article | (Editor’s note: Mirage Hardwood Flooring sent FCNews the following statement in response to a report by the Environmental Investigation Agency) On April 27, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), an independent organization focused on environmental concerns, issued a press release on an EIA report regarding the potential illegal logging of Merbau wood in the Papau Province in Indonesia. The press release also mentions several flooring companies that offer Merbau flooring as part of their product line. Mirage Hardwood Flooring does not offer Merbau flooring. Although Mirage was certain of the legality of its supplier, the company took the initiative to discontinue Merbau from its product line in August 2005 to support efforts to eliminate any potential illegal logging [occuring] in Indonesia. However, because the EIA mentioned Mirage in its press release and report, the company has requested the EIA issue a retraction to correct this error from its April 27 press release. Mirage is committed to the highest legal and ethical standards for the sourcing of wood for its hardwood flooring operations, and will continue to work closely with its suppliers to ensure the legality of all the wood that it receives.
