Article Chatham, N. J.—“He was a great salesman and a respected leader, a caring man who was dedicated to his work and his friends,” said Jack Love, a colleague and longtime friend of Bob Adamo, who died at his home here on March 29. He was 78.

Adamo was athletic and as a young man had dreams of being a major league baseball player. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he joined the Coast Guard during World War II when he was 17 and served for two years. After his discharge from the service, he was signed by the Washington Senators and played for its Double A farm team.

In 1952, he began his career in the floor covering industry with Wornock Mills, a distributor with headquarters in New York City. After five years, he accepted a position with Congoleum as a salesman in the Bronx. Subsequently, he was promoted to Boston district manager. In 1965, he joined Trend Mills as its Boston district manager and then was promoted to Chicago district manager. He was later advanced to general manager of Trend’s Jean-Alan division.

Love, who hired him at Trend Mills, added, “Bob was loyal and conscientious and he had a great sense of humor. His customers loved him and many remained his friend through the years—even after he changed jobs. We shared some wonderful memories.”

Adamo’s tenure with Trend lasted 15 years, his last assignment with the company being Northeast regional manager. In 1981, he joined the sales staff of General Foam in Paramus, N.J., and spent the next 15 years with the company. In 1996, he retired.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Adele; two sons, Don and his wife, Monika, of Morris Township, N.J., and Ross of Chatham; daughter, Barbara, of River Vale, N.J.; a brother, Richard, of Connecticut, and three grandchildren.
