Article Naples, Fla.—Edward Janeczek’s life was dedicated to installing floors and passing along his knowledge to thousands of trade professionals during his 45-year career. On March 25, he succumbed to his two-year battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 64.

At the age of 19, Janeczek began his career as a union installer before opening Crete Carpet & Tile in Crete, Ill. He operated the retail store for 20 years before moving to Congoleum Corp. as its field installation specialist, a position he held for the past 25 years.

During his time at Congoleum, he conducted approximately 3,000 training seminars throughout the U.S. and Canada. Company officials estimate more than 50,000 trade professionals attended his installation sessions.

Those who personally knew Janeczek said he was known for his ability to relate to individuals of all levels with his enthusiasm and fun loving nature.

“Ed was truly one of a kind; a very special individual,” said Bob Dempsey, Congoleum’s installation group manager, who worked with Janeczek for the past 18 years. “He enjoyed his work with a passion and always looked for better way to help the trade—he never settled for second best.”

Dempsey noted Janeczek developed and nurtured numerous friendships from his training sessions. “He will be missed by his friends at Congoleum and throughout the industry.”

Outside of flooring, Janeczek was the vice president of the Ambassador Club Condo Association and enjoyed managing investment properties. He also had a love for deep sea fishing.

Janeczek is survived by Helen, his wife of 42 years; two daughters, Maureen (John) Klatt of Monte Sereno, Calif., and Denise (Phil) of Oak Park, Ill.; sister, Delores Watson of Elkhart, Ind.; brother, Henry of Naples; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janeczek’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 990 First Avenue South, Ste. 200, Naples, Fla. 34102.
