I have no facts to support this statement, only the rumor.
The big three carpet mills are off by large percentage points and most of the small mills are not down as much and one or two are even increasing volume.
What have you heard?

The talk on the business/finance threads have one large mill in particular taking a 100m claims hit.
Waiting to see their quarterly financial statement to verify before commenting further.
You know how destructive rumors can be....

The main point of the "rumor" was that the small mills are holding their own and doing o.k....

Ray,
I wasn't referring to your 'rumors', but rather the ones that name names and quote specific figures before verifying.
I think that in tough economic times, smaller companies are in a better position to act (or react) more quickly in implementing the changes necessary to ride out the storm.
Too many committees and chiefs waste precious time and resources.

I wonder how much Style and Color have to do with smaller mills doing well???
The small mills produce various patterns and colors not found in Large Manufacturers that earn profit from "PRODUCTION" and low cost compared to "STYLE AND COLOR" the small mills manufacturer. Nitch Marketing, I think it's called.

I did all of the purchasing for my retail business. What impressed me about the small mills was their attention to detail from manufacturing to delivery.
They would bend over backwards to please me and like you mentioned, would always have interesting styles and color lines that were unique and that the larger mills typically avoided.
Believe it or not, (generally speaking) the pricing was more competitive and it seemed you got more 'bang-for-the-buck' with their product lines.
Unfortunately, alot of the smaller mills are being 'eaten up' by the giants and are becoming few and far between.
