don't know... Was not in the business in 1948. Was born that year.. Good year.
But:: I don't remember seeing black lines in seams when we sewed.
Don't remember seeing that many black lines at seams even recently. I usually see latex and glue on the nap in shoddy repair efforts, or glue down due to adhesive contamination. Seam adhesive contamination is a big problem in vinyl sheeting too. I get to see adhesive contamination on Commercial Resilient Sheeting Installations.. Sealer turns yellow to brown and a distinct line becomes visible IN the seam.

Everyone makes such a big deal of it. If there's no problems then I can quit trying to find a way to fix it and move on.
Thank you

Why are you trying to fix a problem you don't have?

Ray I do think jim told you that he's not using latex on some carpets. Even perry seen didn't even have seam sealer. It is always just a butchered seam edge. How many times have you seen this on a job. I do think there is a problem here. I have the time that most installers don't.

I'm not sure what "black line" u are talking about however;; you were discussing latex on the pile in another post.
to help all of us to understand;; put up some photos.
I don't see black lines that are the Color of Black.
Perry said he sees them so maybe he can upload some photos.
To qualify your question: 1. Black lines in what kind of product? Level-Loop, Multi-Level-Loop, Cut Pile? 2. Installation method? Glue down, Stretch-In.
Your question may be too broad to address on intellectual level.
