Are there going to be any real retail stores left after the new year or even next year. I wonder how long they can hold out. With the retailers left, everyone is selling at a discount, wholesale they say, maybe not complete wholesale of course. The the internet companies are there selling cheap. also you have those buy direct outlets for your home.
Is there really retail left besides big boxes?

This is a town of 8,000. There are 3 retailers here and they are all struggling. One big box and it's struggling too. My best customers are the public housing, economy doesn't seem to affect them, and a young man who rehabs houses. The flipper is selling houses as fast as he can get them ready. I expect as least one of the retailers to close in 2009.

I don;t think there is a place out there selling full blown retail anymore.
They are dropping like flies here. Who knows which ones will be in biz next week. Who is going to warranty the labor on your floor when they are gone? No store, no labor warranty unless it was a sub, but good luck finding out the name of the guys company and license number.

Detroit is the same way. Dropping like flies. Big boxes are not doing to well here either though. I work for two retailers that have been around 30 plus years and they are barely hanging on.
