I ran across this video this video this morning that I thought might be helpful to you all.
It's a case study of a local business that spent $100 in Google pay-per-click ads, the first month, and made far more sales than off their Yellow Pages ads.
The video also points out the importance of combining paid ads and 'free ads' in the form of high results from organic searches.
An organic search is when you type in what you sell plus the cities you serve … you should be as high as possible in the results.
The video is only 6 minutes. Here's the URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of8xQhRYBpA
Hope this is helpful.

Yes. I'm amazed at how few small to mid-size companies truly take advantage of Internet marketing or even just optimizing their sites so that they rank high in Google's free searches. In a way, smaller local companies have an advantage over the national guys when they simply get their pages optimized well. Someone will type in "need floor fast" anytown and the local company will pop up. If the description is optimized to sell, if will be attractive and compelling. It's really free advertising.
