Footprint Free Carpet

Footprint free carpet is another style that has become extremely popular over the last few years. Footprint free carpet presents a more casual look. It is also been referred to as the "trackless" style, because it is twisted differently than a Saxony style. With this different twist, it gives a textured and in some cases, almost two-toned, appearance.

Footprint free carpet also may be called “trackless”, “stuffer-box”, and mistakenly, “frieze”. Footprint free carpet implies the tendency of this construction method to show fewer footprints and sweeper marks than other cut pile constructions. It should be noted that no cut pile can be classified as being completely free of shading. These constructions are obtained by stuffing yarn into a steam box (stuffer box) and providing a kinked or curled yarn. The fiber is exposed to live steam to set yarn memory in this curled position. This curling of the fiber reduces light reflectance, thus reducing the appearance of footprints. Generally, when viewing a texture from the top, kinked yarns may provide a two-tone effect as a result of shade variations from reflected light.

Again, footprint free carpet is also very good at hiding traffic. With its textured twist, it doesn't show vacuum lines or footprints as much as a Saxony style. In our experience, it also tends to hold up much better and show less wear and tear than the Saxony style.
