Tribal Rugs

Tribal rugs are part of a rich tradition and very different from that of the finely woven floral carpets with which names such as 'Persia' (the more usual Western term for Iran) have long been associated. Tribal rugs have a power and vitality of all their own. The designs are geometrical and abstract, with an inventiveness of detail and boldness of color that can be associated with contemporary paintings.

Unlike the commercial urban and village products being presently made, these were woven exclusively for use in the home. In each piece was found the individual artistic interpretation of the weaver who poured a love of color and design into each one, and who would use this creative outlet, and continue a legacy which was handed down from generation to generation.
