Throw Rugs

Throw Rugs

Throw rugs are also known as scatter rugs and are typically carpets that are small, often machine washable, around 3 × 5 or less in size. Throw rugs should should have a non-skid backing, especially if they will be used on top of hardwood, ceramic tile, or resilient floors to prevent slipping. If it does not have a backing, you can use a thin pad specifically designed for this purpose. Non-skid backings are not necessary, however, if its going to be placed on top of  carpeting.

Throw rugs are named for their small and light, easily moveable features and can literally be thrown on a floor. They come in an assortment of shapes and sizes, are available fringed or unfringed, can have bound or surged edges, decorated with an intricate design with many colors or simply plain and only one solid color. They are made to fit nicely around a commode as a bathroom accessory, or to be placed in front of a kitchen sink providing much needed comfort while washing dishes. Of course, lets not forget the front and back entryways where our guests can politely wipe their feet before entering.

Throw rugs are perhaps the most plentiful of all carpets and can be purchased at many discount department stores and carpet showrooms in your area. They are made in all available fibers such as nylon, polyester, solution dyed olefin, and even wool. The fact that they are generally placed in areas where high traffic is expected, you may want to choose one of the more durable fiber types such as nylon. Nylon is very easy to clean (follow care instructions with product) and very durable as well. Solution dyed olefin is also popular and can also be cleaned easily due to the non-staining quality of this particular yarn type.
